Second Spring- Hot, Cold and Inbetweens

One theme that has emerged through my many conversations with women together recently is the shared experience of the ever changing seasons our bodies go through.

Yep…. the one many of us have been conditioned to believe that we grin and bear it in silence: the hot flashes, the mood swings, the internal fire that creeps up out of nowhere, layering and unlayering, like a wardrobe change at a Taylor Swift concert! Ahh yes, those perimenopausal symptoms that lead to that ultimate next season of life, menopause.

There is a beautiful gift in this-Yes, I said gift….stay with me…

The Japanese refer to this as “ A Second Spring”

The Japanese word for menopause is ‘konenki’, which means ‘renewal’ and ‘energy’.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine menopause is considered a second spring. It’s believed that women’s bodies follow seven-year life cycles. Between the ages of 42-48 a woman’s body prepares for menopause, then during 49-55 we experience what is called a Second Spring. As we age into older women, around the years after 56 this is considered a rebirth/renewal!

“There have been multiple studies that have combined the many aspects of Yoga into general Yoga sessions in order to investigate its effects on menopausal symptoms.”

If this sounds like something you could get into and could benefit to learn more about,

Chara Yoga and Wellness is looking to host a supportive women’s circle and yoga workshop around this topic that we can learn more together on the following:

-Ways nutrition and the foods we eat encourage hormone balance

-Supportive Movement to balance the nervous system

-Develop tools to incorporate rest and mindfulness

-Heighten awareness to your own body’s natural cues and needs to cultivate compassion and a sense of renewal

Love and blessings in the Journey, dear ones💗🤗
