PURPOSE
An important skill in any of the somatic exercises is to witness oneself. The idea is to notice what is happening in the moment and in your body. You can witness your feelings, thoughts, sensations, movements and behavioral responses to people and situations. This skill is to learn how to self-regulate.
Cultivating an inner witness is essential when you want to learn from your body. Suspend the moment frequently throughout the day. See what happens as you train in the art of witnessing your life.
INSTRUCTIONS
Practice suspending the moment by building in pauses before you do or act on anything.
Steps to practice:
Suspend: Hit the pause button on anything that you are doing right now.
Notice: What is happening in your experience right in this moment.
Track: How you are feeling your body right now.
Stay: Don't change anything, but stay present.
Continue what you were doing and see if you experience yourself differently.
Helpful questions to ask yourself:
Where is my attention right now?
How do I experience my body right now?
What do I notice in my awareness right now?
This exercise can be repeated frequently as a helpful daily grounding practice.
